Purchasing Agent (Temp-to-Perm – 6 Months)Location: Dayton, TN
Pay Rate: $23/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST
Interview Process: Back-to-back interviews — please allow approximately 2 hoursPosition SummaryWe’re seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Purchasing Agent to support our busy procurement team during a 6-month temporary assignment—with potential to go permanent. This role is a backfill for a recently promoted employee and will provide essential support to our three primary buyers.You’ll play a key role in managing high-volume, repeat purchases, supporting vendor relationships, and ensuring timely procurement of over 200 recurring parts. If you enjoy structured, fast-paced work and are comfortable handling calls and emails, this could be a great fit.Key Responsibilities
  • Manage repeat orders for approximately 200 parts with high volume and accuracy
  • Initiate and follow up on purchase orders with vendors, focusing on timely delivery
  • Communicate with vendors via phone as the primary contact method (email follow-up after calls)
  • Assist primary buyers with day-to-day purchasing tasks and transactional activities
  • Ensure procurement practices meet SOX compliance standards and avoid conflicts of interest (buyers may not receive product deliveries they ordered)
  • Extract and analyze data in Excel to support decision-making and purchasing improvements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments across the plant
  • Maintain accurate records in ERP systems (SAP and/or SAGE preferred)
  • Work closely with 3rd-party subcontractors, track material consumption, and support lean manufacturing goals
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis efforts to resolve supply chain and vendor issues
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to supply planning and cost control
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in manufacturing purchasing or procurement
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and material flow
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for reporting and analysis
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP and/or SAGE
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism
  • Willingness to make frequent vendor phone calls
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and ethical procurement standards
